Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County provides free, confidential tutoring to adults and out-of-school teens in reading, writing, math, and conversational English. Students live in Albany, Rensselaer, or Schenectady counties. Volunteer tutors are recruited and trained to provide individual or group instruction. Once students and tutors are matched they begin a personalized program to meet the students goals. We request that they meet two hours per week at a public location.
Our programs are free and confidential to adult learners who qualify for our services. There is an initial interview and assessment which helps us qualify and match a student with a tutor. If a tutor isn’t available at the time, the student may be referred to another service or placed on a wait list.
If you are interested in becoming a student or volunteer tutor, please call the Troy office at 518-244-4650 or the Albany office at 518-434-0540.
