If you love to learn about women’s history and want to support literacy in Rensselaer County, this is the event for you. The third annual Famous Ladies’ Tea will be held on Sunday, March 22nd from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 235 Hoosick Street, Troy. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased in advance from Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, 1915 Fifth Avenue, Troy, N.Y., or online at www.lvorc.org. All proceeds from this event will benefit Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County.
The women portrayed in this year’s event will be:
Licia Albanese, Italian-born American operatic soprano
Maya Angelou, author, poet, dancer, actress, and singer
Claudia Procula, wife of Pontius Pilate
Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science
Judge Constance Baker Motley, civil rights activist, lawyer, judge, and state senator
Kate Mullany, labor leader and resident of Troy
Sacagawea, interpreter and guide for the Lewis and Clark Expedition
Edith Stuyvesant Dresser Vanderbilt, sponsor of literacy programs and promoter of women
Anne Sullivan Macy, best known as Helen Keller’s teacher
A silent auction will include items from area retailers, artisans, restaurants and service providers. Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County depends on income from special events to support free programs and services for adults and children in greater Rensselaer County.
