Recently, Joe Malone was recognized with an Outstanding Teacher of the Year award by the NY Association of Continuing and Community Education. This award was bestowed during the annual conference held at the Albany Marriott.
Trained as an English Language Learner (ELL) tutor, he has led the LVORC English Literacy Civics class for the last ten years. This 25-week course is designed to assist recent immigrants in acclimating to life in America while enhancing their English proficiency.
According to Joe, “teaching adults is a unique endeavor underscored by a shared sense of achievement. I see it as a partnership, and my students echo that sentiment. Having a long career as a writer and editor has made me conscious of the many idiosyncrasies of the English language. Adapting my teaching to these irregularities has been a challenge, but I work to make the EL Civics program interesting and fun!”
Congratulations, Joe! And, thank you for your dedication to increasing literacy in our community!
