The required one-hour training for the program will be held on Wednesday, October 11 from 1-2:30 PM at Hart Hall (3rd floor) on the Troy Russell Sage campus. Pre-registration is required. Everybody Wins! Power Lunch is an innovative reading and mentoring program that improves children’s prospects for success in school and in life. Once a week, Power Lunch pairs elementary school children with adult reading mentors who book aloud to a child while the child eats lunch.

“Children who develop a love of reading are on their way to becoming lifelong learners,” says Nancy Benz, Executive Director of LVORC. “Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County provides a wide range of programs and services to promote literacy in the Capital Region. The Power Lunch program is a great way to engage volunteers in building a more literate community.”

Did you know that LVORC has provided free, confidential tutoring to adults in Rensselaer County and Albany County since 1968? For 55 years, we have trained volunteers to help learners to improve their ability to read, write, speak and understand English; empowered our learners to be advocates for themselves; and educated the community about literacy issues. We also offer math, computer, and financial literacy; English Literacy Civics and citizenship prep. New volunteers are always welcome. Call (518) 244-4650 for more information.
